CLINTON, Iowa – The family has identified the man who police say died from a gunshot wound in Clinton last week.
BREAKING UPDATE
New charges filed against two men involved in deadly Clinton shooting
On Feb. 17, at around 9 p.m., officers and emergency personnel responded to the 500 block of 22nd Avenue North in Clinton for a report of a gunshot wound, according to police and dispatch audio.
Upon arrival, first responders found a man suffering from a gunshot wound where EMS provided immediate care before taking him to the hospital where he later died.
On Feb. 22, the family confirmed to me the man who died was Brady Newsom of Clinton, who recently turned 20 years old and was a first-time father to a baby boy.

Brady Newsom.

“My little brother Brady had a heart of gold. He had a smile that could light up a room and a very contagious laugh. Brady has a son who was the light of his world. He was his happiest being around his family. Brady would help anyone that he could and always made sure that anyone that was around him was always laughing. You could go to Brady with anything. He was always there to listen and would never judge anyone. I will miss my brother dearly. But I know he will always be with us.” – Brady’s sister Paige Newsom.
“As a mother I couldn’t have asked for a better son. He was strong, respectful, and full of love. Brady was a child full of energy and laughter. He loved to play sports, video games, and really anything that kept him moving. He has always had a love for music and shoes. He was a fierce protector of his sisters and the most loyal to his friends. He would share everything he had with the people he loved. He thought of his friends as his brothers. Brady recently became a father to an amazing baby boy and that was his joy and proudest accomplishment. There are no words to express the loss that has taken place in our lives. My heart will be forever broken and I will miss him until my last breath.” Brady’s mother Lana Lawson.

Arrests made.

On the night of the shooting, police arrested two men who were present when Newsom was shot, affidavits show. However, at this time, neither have been charged in connection to the deadly shooting.
Julius Graham, 19, of Clinton, is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, a Class D Felony, as well as Interference with Official Acts, a Simple Misdemeanor.
Noah Pruett, 20, of Clinton, is also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, in addition to probation violations.
Police say the initial investigation into the shooting found Graham and Pruett were in possession of a black Glock handgun with a purple grip, affidavits show.
Police say the gun was later found and recovered outside Pruett’s home near the front door, affidavits show.
According to police, a witness said Pruett handed the gun to Graham prior to the shooting, affidavits show.
Police say Graham later admitted he had recorded a video on Pruett’s phone showing himself handling the gun earlier that evening, affidavits show.
According to police, both Graham and Pruett are subject to valid criminal no-contact orders prohibiting them from legally possessing a gun, affidavits show.
Later that night, police say Graham was uncooperative when they were trying to book him into jail. On multiple occasions, he is accused of pulling away from the jailer and preventing the jailer of performing his duties, affidavits show.
