Western Illinois University graduate, and newly-hired police officer, Tyler Smith was reported missing in Galesburg, Illinois on the morning of September 15, 2018 after not returning to his friend’s house from the bars the night prior. Later that day, he was found dead in a drainage ditch. Local police closed the case after ruling it an accidental drowning. However, his body was exhumed for a second autopsy in 2020 and state police launched their own investigation.
