Police: One student arrested after fight at Rock Island High School Wednesday

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Police say one student was arrested Wednesday morning after a fight at Rock Island High School.

On Feb. 11, at around 11 a.m., police say an officer responded to the Rock Island High School for a report of a fight between two students, aged 17 and 18 years old.

The details.

According to the school district, ‘several individuals’ witnessed the fight, in which one student was injured.

RIHS team members responded immediately, provided assistance, and contacted emergency medical services.”

The district also wants to dispel rumors about the incident.

“Reports of a stabbing or a scholar being pushed over the stairs are not accurate. According to the family, the injured scholar is currently at home recovering.

The district says they are also seeking ways to bolster prevention of, and improve responses to, student misconduct.

The RIHS leadership team has since debriefed the incident and is developing additional measures to strengthen prevention efforts and responses to student misconduct. We are working closely with the scholars involved and their families to reinforce expectations and ensure a safe learning environment for all.

The outcome.

As a result of the incident, police say the 17-year-old was charged with Misdemeanor Battery. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old refused any medical treatment at the scene.

No further details are available.
