Clinton man charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing man multiple times

CLINTON, Iowa – A Clinton man is behind bars after allegedly showing up to a man’s home uninvited and stabbing him multiple times in December.

Patrick Worsley, 33, of Clinton, is charged with Attempted Murder and First Degree Burglary, both a Class B Felony.

The victim, JS, was airlifted to Iowa City due to his injuries, according to police. His current condition is unknown.

A woman inside the home with JS was cut in the face and taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to police.



Allegations.

At around midnight, the night of Dec. 16, officers responded to the 300 block of 1st Avenue in Clinton for a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, police say officers and medical personnel found JS with multiple stab wounds, arrest affidavits show.

The woman inside the home, identified as LM, told police she was watching TV in the living room when she heard a loud banging on the front door and alerted JS who was upstairs at the time, affidavits show.

When JS got to the door, LM claims the suspect attacked both of them but heard JS yelling that he was being stabbed. She said the cut on her face was from a knife used in the attack, affidavits show.

LM also said her dog bit the suspect before he fled the scene, affidavits show.

Before being airlifted to Iowa City, JS told investigators the suspect’s name was Patrick and that he believes the attack was over a dispute between them involving money, affidavits show.



Investigation.

Officers obtained a search warrant and found Worsley in his apartment where they also discovered bloody clothing, bloody footwear and a knife, affidavits show.

Worsley admitted to police he went over to JS’s home to confront him about ‘some issues,’ claiming JS had stolen $300 from him a few days prior, affidavits show.

Worsley also confirmed he was bit by the dog during the incident, affidavits show.

Refusing to comply.

Prior to speaking with Worsley, police say he initially refused to comply and physically resisted forcing officers to deploy a taser, affidavits show.

During the incident, one of the officers sustained minor abrasions and redness to their wrist, affidavits show.

An additional charge of Interference with Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury was filed against Worsley, affidavits show.
