DAVENPORT, Iowa – A Davenport man is behind bars after allegedly fleeing police and crashing into squad cars with a toddler inside his vehicle.

Lontrez Nabors, 41, is facing several felony charges including three counts of Assault on a Police Officer, a Class C Felony, two counts of Controlled Substance Violation, a Class C Felony, three counts of Second Degree Criminal Mischief, a Class D Felony, and Eluding, a Serious Misdemeanor.

In addition, police initially charged Nabors with Child Endangerment, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. However, prosecutors have upgraded this charge to a Class C Felony for Neglect or Abandonment of Dependent Person, court records show.

Allegations.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Oct. 19, officers initiated a traffic stop for active arrest warrants in the area of W 2nd Street and Sturdevant Street in Davenport, affidavits show.

Police said Nabors tried to flee when officers activated their lights and sirens, even after officers made contact with his vehicle trying to stop him. Adding, he intentionally ‘drove head on’ with other squad cars multiple times placing the officers ‘in fear of being seriously injured,’ affidavits show.

After police were able to stop Nabors and arrest him, officers found a three-year-old child unsecured in the middle row of seats inside the vehicle, affidavits show.

Police said they also found two clear plastic bags on the floorboard containing 5.8 grams of cocaine and 5.1 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms, affidavits show.

In 2006, Nabors pled Guilty to Forgery in Rock Island County and sentenced to two years in prison, court records show.

In 2008, a jury found Nabors Guilty for Unlawful Possession of Stolen Vehicle in Rock Island Co. He was sentenced to seven years in prison, court records show.
