Police arrest Wisconsin woman who tried to set Davenport gas station on fire

Deanne Chance, 57, of Beloit, faces multiple felony charges including First Degree Arson, a Class B Felony. She is also charged with Assault While Displaying A Dangerous Weapon, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

According to police, at around 11 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a Kwik Star gas station in the 1200 block of E Kimberly Rd for a weapons call, affidavits show.

Police say Chance intentionally pointed and activated a gas hose in the direction of other people and tried to light the hose on fire by sparking a lighter, affidavits show.

While officers were on scene, Chance intentionally lit a propane tank and approached someone ‘in an aggressive manner’ with a knife, affidavits show.

Officers ordered Chance to drop the gas hose as she was trying to start a fire with it and pointing it in the direction of other people, but police say she ‘disregarded all commands,’ affidavits show.

Police say Chance set fire to ‘several’ propane tanks causing about $750 worth of damage, affidavits show.

Chance refused to be seen by a judge Saturday, but was set to appear in court Sunday morning, court records show.

Chance is in custody at the Scott County Jail with a $1,000 bond, jail records show.
