Suspect arrested for the murder, kidnapping of Trudy Appleby

MOLINE, Ill. – A man has been charged for the murder of Trudy Appleby 29 years after her disappearance.

On Aug. 21, 1996, Appleby was 11 years old when she was last seen near her Moline home where witnesses saw her getting into the passenger side of an older model, gray vehicle driven by an unidentified man, according to police.

Police say Appleby had asked to go swimming that day on Campbell’s Island but her father had told her no.

Phone records ‘indicate’ Appleby went ahead with those plans but vanished and is still missing, according to police.

On Wednesday, Jamison A. Fisher, 50, was indicted by a Grand Jury in Henry County, Illinois for the murder of Appleby. He is in custody at the Scott County Jail on unrelated charges pending extradition to Illinois, according to officials.

Police say Fisher is a family friend and associate of another suspect in the Appleby case who died in 2014.

Fisher is charged with three counts of First Degree Murder, and one count of Concealment of a Homicidal Death. He is accused of kidnapping, strangling and killing Appleby, as well as hiding her body, according to officials.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as they become available.
