FREEPORT, Ill. – Court documents confirm suspect involved in pursuit-turned-shooting in Savanna last month had already been arrested and charged for stealing same truck used in the pursuit.
Mark Feltmeyer, 59, of Freeport, who was shot by officers in Savanna after leading them on a multi-county pursuit last month, appeared in Stephenson County court on Monday for a new charge of Unlawful Possession of a Motor Vehicle, a Class 2 Felony.
Feltmeyer already faces several felony charges in Carroll County for the multi-county pursuit that ended with multiple collisions and gunfire in Savanna on the morning of June 26:
- Unlawful Poss. of a Motor Vehicle (Class 2 Felony)
- Three counts of Criminal Damage to Govt. Property, One count of Criminal Damage to Property (Class 3)
- Aggravated Fleeing, Attempting to Elude (Class 4)
- Two counts of Agg. Assault on Officer (Class 4)
- Two counts of Resisting or Obstructing a Police Officer (Class A Misdemeanor)
- Driving While License Suspended (Class A)
According to the criminal complaint I obtained Monday, Feltmeyer is accused of unlawfully possessing the white 2018 Ford F350 pickup truck used in the June 26 incident.
The truck’s registration number listed in the complaint matches the registration of the white 2018 Ford F350 pickup truck Feltmeyer is accused of stealing from a Freeport business in May.
Feltmeyer was granted pretrial release three days before the pursuit-turned-shooting despite being arrested for failing to appear at his June 18 court date for the Theft charge in connection to the stolen truck, court records show.
It is unclear how the new charge of Unlawful Possession will affect the same charge filed against Feltmeyer in Carroll County.
Feltmeyer appeared in Carroll County court last week where a judge ordered him to remain in jail, court records show.
On Monday, Feltmeyer appeared in Stephenson County court on the new charge of Unlawful Possession where he was also ordered by a judge to remain in jail, court records show.
A preliminary hearing for the Carroll County charges is set for July 25 at 9:30 a.m.
A preliminary hearing for the new Stephenson County charge is set for July 17 at 9 a.m., which is the same time slot previously set for the original Theft charge from May.
Feltmeyer is being held in Stephenson Co. Jail.
